TRIBUTE TO FIREWORKS A FEAST OF FIREWORKS

A FEAST OF FIREWORKS
by Andy Harley

We've practiced our "oohs and ahhhs",

And are ready to kickoff this show;

As I pull down easy on the gas lighter,

The slow fuse starts burning below.

A rocket then suddenly sails skyward,

Corkscrewing through the singing air.

With a waterfall of fire and fountains of sparks,

A sea of onlookers stare;

Shooting three off at a time . . .

A symphony of glitter explodes overhead;

Colors sparkle on the lakes jeweled surface,

Blue, green, amber and red;

There are golden arches of sequin-like stars

As more continue to ignite;

A combination of color with earthshaking bangs,

In bright and beaded, electrifying light.

Falling high from the sky is a beautiful burst

From a chrysanthemum shell;

It out-dazzles all of the others,

And an odor of sulfur you can now smell.

What an eye-catching display this is tonight,

Being fired on the Fourth of July.

Everyone seems to be enthralled in it,

As the stairs of smoke clouds blow on by.
