Valentine's Day : Valentine Record Holders

Strange Valentine Record Holders

Longest Engagement
Octavio Guillen and Adriana Martinez were both 82 years old when they tied the knot in 1969. It's not uncommon for octogenarians to get married. But the couple from Mexico waited 67 years to do so. That's how long they were engaged! Perhaps it took that long for Octavio's feet to finally thaw?

Longest Kiss
On April 5, 1999, a contest was held at Rabin Square, in Tel-Aviv, Israel to see who can kiss for the longest period of time. Karmit Tzubera and Dror Orpaz won with a liplock that lasted 30 hours and 45 minutes. Both Karmit and Dror remained standing throughout their public display of affection and went without rest breaks for the duration. After winning the contest, as you might expect, the couple were both treated for exhaustion. For their extensive pucker-up, Karmit and Dror won a trip around the world and $2,500 in American cash.

Longest Marriage
The gift of gold celebrates 50 years of marriage. But what do you give someone for their 86th anniversary? Liu Yang-wan married her husband, Liu Yung-yang, back in 1917. They wed for 86 years until she passed away of natural causes in her home in Taoyuan County, China on July 21, 2003. She was 103, a year younger than her husband. Yang-wan actually lived with her eventual husband when she was five. As an ancient tradition among less fortunate Taiwanese families, she was sent to live with her future husband's family to address his needs and take care of the house.

Most Kissing Couples
Over 10,000 people gathered in Manila, Phillipines to celebrate Valentine's Day in 2004. At the stroke of midnight, a record 5,327 couples kissed for 10 seconds, led by Mayor Lito Atienza and his wife Evelina. The liplock caused gridlock in the downtown area, as the participants lined the downtown streets over a mile long, forcing traffic jams that lasted hours. Following the feat, the participants were treated to what else? A fireworks display!

Oldest Bride and Oldest Groom
On May 31, 1991, Minnie Munro became the world's oldest known bride on record, when she exchanged vows with Dudley Reid in Point Clare, Australia. Minnie was 102 years old while her groom was only 83.

Meanwhile, Harry Stevens was 103 years old when he married Thelma Lucas at the Caravilla Retirement Home in Beloit, Wisconsin, on Dec 3, 1984. Like Munro, Stevens spouse was 19 years his senior; Thelma was 84.
